A distribution channel is the way in which a film is released, the channels used can be ticket sales, DVDs sold in supermarkets and other stores as well as streaming services and post release playings in local cinemas. The distribution channels are any way for the consumer to be met by the product. they are key in ensuring the film makes a profit as if the film isn't put onto DVD copies can never be sold, and if it is not released on iTunes that risks the younger generation never finding it.
The main distribution of the film would have been DVD sales and online downloads, as well as cinema tickets when the film was in the box office. It was also recently released on Netflix, the world famous Film and TV streaming network. On an international scale the film was translated into a huge variety of languages, re-dubbed and played to audiences in countries around the world including France, Italy and Germany. this will all also be released onto iTunes which has become one of the biggest distribution centres for online content such as movies, however it has recently been threatened by piracy of media.
The makers of Django and TWC made a deal with Netflix a few months ago which put Django on the homepage of Netflix for a few weeks before the film was taken off Netflix to encourage more dvd sales. This was most likely done with a large payment from Netflix for putting the film on the network.
As The Weinstein Company does it's own distribution without the need of a partner company it can save money on advertisement and release of the film by simply providing their own trailers or interviews with the directors and cast. TWC is also a parent company to Dimension Films and Radius TWC which are multi-platform and multi-media production and distribution companies.
The film Django Unchained was released in a number of different countries and thousands of DVD copies made.
